Fairgrounds are just beyond the railroad tracks. The show is in the new Multipurpose Building on the right after you enter the Allegany County Fairgrounds. Free parking.

Housing: See Housing List for local overnight accomodations.

Quilt Registration: We will accept your quilt on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Allegany County Fairgrounds from 12:00 noon to 5 pm only. For those who want to show their quilts, registration information is available below. You are encouraged to pre-register using our web form. Tell your friends!

Submission and Pickup of Entries: Any quilter or sewer of any age may submit entries on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 from 12 noon to 5 pm only, at the Multipurpose Bldg., Allegany County Fairgrounds, 11490 Moss Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502. There is no charge for submission of entries. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded.

Each quilt is registered and numbered separately for maximum security. Most homeowner policies will provide insurance protection for your quilts. Overnight security services are provided on the premises.

Starting at 4:45 pm on Sunday, June 28, takedown numbers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Pickup is from 5:00 to 5:30 pm. The signed receipt is required for return of quilt(s) to the owner.

ALL QUILTS MUST HAVE A HANG SLEEVE AT THE BACK TOP OF THE QUILT. Please be sure each item has a hanging sleeve on the back and that your name is covered in muslin or tape for judging.

Quilt Hanging Sleeve: Please attach a 4" rod hanging sleeve on the back of the quilt or wallhanging about 4 inches down from the top. If hanging sleeve is needed on Registration Day, then a needle, thread, and sleeve will be provided for you to attach before acceptance at a cost of $3 per muslin sleeve. Should your quilt be longer than 96", please place the sleeve farther down from the top so the bottom will clear the floor, if possible.

Sale of Quilts and Wallhangings: Our primary goal is to display the wide variety of quilting talent in the area. Some quilters choose to sell their work. Therefore, in order to maintain the beauty and consistency of our Show, we will retain the quilts and wallhangings which sell until the conclusion of the Show. We ask the buyer to pick up the purchased item at 5 pm on Sunday or pay $20 for shipping, insurance, and costs.

2009 Highlights:

Art Explosion! Challenge
Use your imagination and create a three-layer small art quilt not to exceed 24" on any side or angle. This category will be judged. Ribbons and cash awards will be determined.

Nelson Collection
Don't miss the predominantly Amish private collection of Kay and Charren Nelson. Mr. Kay Nelson and his wife Charren are collectors of antiques and beautiful quilts, primarily made by the Amish. When courting his wife he asked if she “would like to see his quilt collection.” He sealed the deal. We are extremely pleased to share a portion of their collection with you.
